Traineeship Information
Traineeships are a rewarding opportunity for both your organisation and your staff. A well-chosen traineeship can increase productivity, worker motivation and staff retention, whilst equipping your employees with both the relevant skills to perform at a higher level as well as a nationally recognised qualification.
Traineeships are for entry-level workers and for existing workers where there is an identified skills gap. As an employer of a trainee your organisation may be eligible to receive incentive payments (delivered through the AAC network) from the Federal Government. The Australian Government supports Australian Apprentices and Trainees and their employers with a system of financial incentives to encourage employers to offer employment related training opportunities.
When you engage in a traineeship, you enter into a Training Contract. This is a legally binding document that is lodged with the Department of Education and Training (DET).
You will need to have a Supervising Registered Training Organisation to help you work through the traineeship. This is where Workforce Training & Development fits in.
Incentive Payments and Eligibility
By entering into a Traineeship agreement, your organisation may be eligible for the following incentives:
Commencement and Completion Incentives
• | For Trainees at Certificate Level II a total of up to $3700 |
• | For Trainees at Certificate Levels III and IV incentives of a total of up to $4000 |
Mature Age (45+) Traineeship Incentives
• | For mature age Trainees who commence a Certificate II to IV Traineeship, a $750 incentive may apply, with an additional $750 for those Trainees who successfully complete their training. |
• | Incentives may apply to new staff or existing staff with less than 3 months full time, or less than 12 months part time tenure. |
• | Does not apply to casual staff. |
A Note on Funding
It should be noted that not all trainees will have their training costs funded directly by the Government. There are occasionally circumstances where a trainee may be eligible to enter into a training contract, but they are not eligible for funding. In this instance, the employer would need to make a commitment to fund the training.
